About Marjo

Tell us a little about yourself
Well, my name is Marjo, living in Alkmaar: the cheesecity of the world. I am a teacher for refugee children. From all over the world where there is war, we get the children on our school, Somalia, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. Not always an easy job, but when you see those eyes sparkling when the school is starting….. In between I worked for about 11 years as an artistic leader of a small theatre/arthouse in Alkmaar: Provadja.

What one thing are you most proud of in your years so far?
That i did the things I always wanted. Not only being a teacher but also doing things like organzing festivals with several artiststs.

What one thing do you hope to have achieved by the age age of 100?
Spreading a little happiness around the people around me.

What one thing have you seen in your lifetime which has changed the world the most significantly?
That must be the photograpy: from glassplates to digital and of course the internet.

What piece of advice would you give to your 10 year old self?
All you have to do is be yourself and live the story that no one else can live – the story of your own unique life.
Be proud.
Be confident.
And most of all, be happy.
